TNRD, BCGEU Ratify Agreement for Library Staff

Kamloops, BC – March 31, 2023 – The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library (TNRL) and the British Columbia General Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU) have ratified a new three-year collective agreement, which is in effect until December 31, 2025.

Highlights of the agreement include wage increases retroactive to January 1, 2023, and improvements to vacation entitlement and special leave. Wage increases are 2% plus $0.60 per hour in years one and two, and 4% in year three. The parties also agreed to a number of language changes that promote the effective operation of the library and support the needs of library employees.

“The Board of Directors is pleased to see that this agreement has been ratified by both parties,” said Board Chair Barbara Roden. “This agreement ensures the stability of our library services, which many people in our communities depend on. Our libraries are inclusive, accessible, and welcoming, and library staff are at the core of this important service.”

The BCGEU was pleased to endorse the agreement that has now been ratified for its fair wage increases, vacation adjustments and many language improvements.

The TNRL provides library services through 12 branches, the award-winning Mobile Library, a digital library collection, and Library Home Service. The TNRL has been proudly meeting the lifelong learning, reading and informational needs of residents in the Thompson-Nicola region for nearly 50 years.
